SANAA, Yemen: A large number of people daily visit during the holy month
of Ramadan an old Mosque situated in a small village Al-Ma’qab, 250 Kilometers
south of Yemeni capital Sanaa, keeping faith that offering prayer in it is much
rewarding than in other mosques.
The residents of the village which is situated at High Mountain “Sabr”
at the height of around 3,200 feet from sea level believe that the very old
Mosque named as “Al-Kahaf Mosque” is built on the cave which was refuge and
shelter of “Ashab-e-Kahaf” whose story is mentioned in the holy Quran.
The cave, in the mosque, is surrounded by a wooden boundary and covered
with a stone.
A custodian of the Mosque Muhammad Abdohu Al-Faqih, 75, said that the
cave at present is not seen except a small hole and he believes it is that cave
mentioned in the Quran.
He said the thing that causes throng of visitors is their feeling of the
presence of the wind that blows as they stretch hands inside the hole present
in the midst of mosque.
Jordanians believe that the Cave is in Amman while some other are of the
opinion it is in Egypt.
